I bought this pack to use when I did freezer paper FPP. It goes through the printer really well.
I don’t know if initially my iron was not hot enough or not held on the paper for long enough, as I can’t find any any instructions in the pack, but it tended to come off during the foundation piecing process. I had to re iron it back on to continue. This caused the piece to curl by the time I had finished piecing and ironing several times, but it flattened a bit when left under a weight overnight. It wasn’t a problem as the next stage was to remove the paper.
But when it came to removing the paper, I found that on some of my fabrics it adhered too well and was hard to remove. I also don’t feel I can reuse it as the waxy surface has pretty much disappeared possibly because I ironed it really well so it didn’t come off before I was ready to remove it!
I know it is intended for appliqué and doesn’t specifically mention FPP, but I thought it would work as it seemed good quality. A bit disappointed as the pack was quite expensive.
Was this helpful?QDQuilt Direct4 months agoThank you very much for sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear that the Kim Diehl freezer paper did not perform as you had hoped for foundation paper piecing, as that must have been frustrating when you were aiming for accuracy.
This product is designed mainly for hand and machine appliqué, so its behaviour can differ during piecing. In our own tests it prints well and adheres reliably, but it does tend to curl slightly after repeated ironing, which can make foundation piecing more difficult. Reynolds Freezer Paper or the C&T Quilter’s Freezer Paper remain flatter and are often preferred for this technique.
Your comments are genuinely helpful for other makers, and we are grateful that you took the time to explain your experience. If you return to this type of project, we would be very pleased to guide you towards the most suitable paper for your work.
