    Could be better

I had high hopes for this extension table. Firstly - my own mistake, I know - the size was smaller than I had imagined. It only gives you about 4 inches extra in width. The depth is better though and the flat surface it gives you is better than the curved sloping sides of the Bernina extension table when using quilting rulers. The second issue I had was the screw holes had not been countersunk straight, so when the plastic screws were fully inserted, they stuck up by about 3mm on one side, creating a sharp edge for fabric to catch on very easily. The other issue I had was that the BSR wasn't working properly. It was very jerky and 'stop/starty'! On investigation the actual eye of the BSR was not completely level with the top of the table, so I think was not picking up the image clearly enough.

I maybe should have returned the table, but I was keen to get on with my quilt, so I attempted to fix the problems. I filed the screw tops until they were level (3 out of the 4 needed filing), and I added a small washer to the BSR to bring it up, which seemed to work better. However overall, I found my somewhat heavy quilt was catching on the edges of the table (actually worse than the curves of the Bernina table!)

Sorry for the lengthy review, but I like to give honest clear feedback so that maybe these issues can be fixed in the future.

    Hi Amanda
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and honest review. We really do appreciate constructive feedback like this.

We are sorry to hear that the Sewtable did not fully meet your expectations. Regarding the countersunk screw holes, this is certainly not how the table should have been manufactured, and we would have been more than happy to replace it had we known. We are also disappointed to hear about the BSR alignment issue. These tables are designed to work with the BERNINA BSR, so we will pass your comments back to Quilter's Rule for investigation.

As you mention, the table is designed to provide additional support around the machine rather than replace a full quilting cabinet or large sewing surface. When quilting larger or heavier projects, supporting the weight of the quilt beyond the edges of the table can make a significant difference to how smoothly it moves through the machine.

The dimensions are listed on the product page, but we appreciate that it can sometimes be difficult to visualise the size from measurements alone, so we will review whether we can make this clearer.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Feedback such as yours is invaluable in helping us improve both our product information and the products we offer.

    Kind regards

    Quilt Direct Team
