I've just started tie dyeing and I read online that Retayne stops colours from running. Following the instructions found on the "Man Sewing" website I added a small amount of Retayne to a bucket of hot water and swished the fabric I was going to dye in it for 20 minutes and then rinsed and dried. I then carried out my tie dye project . Once the dye was fixed, rinsed and washed , I put a piece of white cotton over the dyed fabric and ironed it. There was no dye transference onto the piece of white cotton , so it would appear, Retayne works.

I bought a denim dress online and some reviews mentioned that the fabric bled dye when washed. I washed the dress before wearing it and taking the garment out of the washing machine drum and my hands were a fetching shade of ‘varicose vein blue’! I was very careful drying it making sure there was nothing that could touch the dress. Frankly, I would have been wary of sitting on any fabric sofa wearing the dress. There was only one thing for it; Google. No other product seemed as ‘professional’, informative with such good reviews as Retayne on the Quilt Direct website. Although it stated that the best results are achieved if Retayne is added to the very first wash, I added it to the second, after all I had nothing to lose. Even when the dress was newly out of the washing machine drum, I rubbed the fabric with an off-cut of white cheesecloth and no blue denim dye was transferred onto the scrap fabric. To say I’m delighted is an understatement because I wouldn’t have been confident wearing the dress without the Retayne treatment.
I’d also like to thank the Quilt Direct team who packed and dispatched my order promptly; thank you. Nothing less than 5* for product and service 😊!
