Appliqué Threads

There are many appliqué techniques and almost as many different threads to suit them, each creating a different effect and finish. This collection brings together a carefully curated selection of thread ranges recommended for both hand and machine appliqué.

For traditional hand appliqué, Aurifil 80wt cotton, Mettler 60wt cotton, or YLI Silk 100wt are excellent choices. These exceptionally fine threads settle gently into the fabric and create precise, delicate stitches that are barely visible.

For machine appliqué, whether digital or decorative, Aurifil 50wt cotton and Mettler Polysheen provide smooth, reliable results with a clean, well-controlled edge. A heavier 40wt or 28wt thread can also look beautiful when the design calls for a more pronounced, decorative finish.
