Omnigrid rulers were originally developed in the late 1970s and early 1980s by quilter Peggy Schafer and her husband, Randy. Frustrated by rulers that were difficult to read and poorly suited to patchwork, they set out to create a tool that offered clear markings, reliable accuracy, and practical usability for everyday quilting.
Those early Omnigrid rulers quickly gained a reputation for their distinctive grid lines and thoughtful design, making accurate cutting and trimming easier on both light and dark fabrics. For many quilters, the original Omnigrid rulers became trusted companions at the cutting table, valued for their clarity, durability, and no-nonsense approach to precision.
Omnigrip rulers were introduced later as a development of this original concept, adding a textured anti slip backing to help reduce movement while cutting. Retaining the familiar Omnigrid markings and layouts, Omnigrip offers an alternative for quilters who appreciate the proven Omnigrid design but prefer additional stability when working with layered fabrics or longer cuts.
