Description
Hobbs has combined a unique resin bonding process with magnificent washable wool to make what we believe to be the world's finest wool batting. Wool breathes better than other fibres and acts as a natural insulator to maintain comfort in summer or winter. Wool is exceptionally easy to quilt by hand or machine with quilt spacing up to 4".
Hobbs Heirloom Premium 100% Wool Batting has become one of our most sought after battings due to its soft and luxurious feel and how it brings out a quilter’s piecing and stitching. It needles wonderfully, maintains loft and has exceptional resilience.
Hobbs Heirloom Premium 100% Wool Batting is a lightweight, breathable batting that breathes naturally and is comfortable for use in all climates, even hot and humid climates!
Hobbs Heirloom Wool Batting is made of the finest super washed wool in the world – this super washing process successfully smooths the scales on the wool fibres, making it pleasant to the touch and less likely to shrink.
We suggest washing items made with Hobbs Heirloom Wool Batting by hand, cool water, and laying them out flat to dry. If you prefer machine washing, items made with this batting may be machine-washed – you should use a gentle cycle and cold/cool water and ensure there’s no heavy agitation or spin during the wash cycle. Be especially cautious with front-loading washers as the intense spin cycle on these machines can be very hard on all elements of your quilts. You may start the drying process of items made with this batting in a cool/air-fluff dryer for 5-10 minutes; however, we recommend you then lay the item flat to complete the drying process.
This product, while lightweight, is also strong and resists bearding and migration.
Hobbs Heirloom Wool Batting should be paired with medium or dark fabrics – if paired with white or light-coloured fabrics, natural wool could slightly darken the fabrics. We recommend quilters test this wool batting with their chosen fabric(s) to see if ‘darkening’ will be an issue. Often it’s not an issue, but it’s always best to test it to be safe!
You may stitch this batting to 4″ apart, and it is machine washable (once inside a quilt), with shrinkage of 3-5% expected.
